After reading ‘Balancing Acts’ and then looking up ‘faun’ in Wikipedia, I began to wonder how a Roman-driver of a two-wheeled chariot might have reacted if he suddenly came upon someone balancing himself in the middle of his stone-paved road. Would he have kept on going, or would he have stopped to throw half the human – half fool into the drainage ditch directing the run-off from the afternoon rain out into the sea?
